Global Work

Study Abroad

I had the opportunity to study abroad in Madrid, Spain, at Universidad Carlos III at the Leganes campus. I took courses in nanophotonics, advanced quantum physics, computer architecture, and Spanish. I explored other cities in Spain like Segovia, Barcelona, Ibiza, and Seville as well as other countries such as Morocco, France, Monaco, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Ireland, UK, Switzerland, and Italy. By taking courses in Spanish in my fields of study with students from different countries, I not only learned about my respective subject areas, but I also learned how to communicate and collaborate with people with different backgrounds than me. I will bring this experience back into my research lab which has academics from all across the world. The classes I took are imperative not only to my ECE and Physics degree completion but also highly relevant to my field of research. By studying abroad as an engineering student, I have developed a broader understanding of global challenges, cultural differences, and diverse approaches to problem-solving. I have also been able to leverage this experience to foster a global network and new collaborators, which could lead to new research and funding opportunities with an expanded network.
